What is Rainwater Harvesting?
The Queensland Government is currently reviewing water resources with the focus being on reducing water usage by up to 30% via the requirement to collect and store rainwater in a water storage tank and re-use rainwater for indoor and outdoor needs (a “rainwater harvesting system”).
With additional plumbing and a pump, consumers can use captured rainwater for filling up pools, flushing toilets, washing machine cold water, watering the garden or washing the car – called “rainwater harvesting”. Action Tanks offers customers market-leading Rainwater Harvesting systems to seamlessly switch your water use between mains water and tank water.
Please note that all above ground rainwater tanks from 1000L and over can be configured into a rainwater harvesting system. As a general guide, a 3000 to 5000 litre water tank can supply water for all non-drinking household applications such as flushing toilets, washing clothes, watering gardens and washing cars.

General Information
With increased demand on our precious water resources, many state governments and local councils require new homes, and encourage existing homes and offices to have their water tank(s) connected to the building to supply rainwater for non-drinking applications.
The average Family uses between 250,000 liters and 300,000 liters of water a year. Over 50% of this water is used for toilet flushing and garden watering. Rainwater or other fit-for-purpose water sources could easily be used for these activities potentially saving millions of liters of water per year.
Average Family Home Water Consumption

As of 31st October 2010, New Water regulations for the top-up of existing pools and spas for Bodies Corporate of the amalgamated councils now part of the South-East Water Grid will apply to ALL premises located in the local government areas of Redlands City Council, Scenic Rim Regional Council and Sunshine Coast Regional Council under the QLD Water Commission permanent water conservation measures (PWCM).
To comply with the new regulations to supply an alternate water source from town water for your pool / spa top-up you will need to install either a rainwater tank (capture, store and control water for top-up); or downpipe diverter (top-up straight from your roofs downpipe when it rains).
