National Rebates - $500

As part of the $12.9 billion Water for the Future plan,The National Rainwater and Greywater Initiative offers household rebates of up to $500 for new rainwater tanks or greywater systems purchased after 30 January 2009.

Brisbane City Council Rebates

Brisbane residents are encouraged to install rainwater tanks as a substitute source of water to the mains water supply for uses such as flushing toilets, cold water washing taps and outdoor uses such as garden watering, washing the car and the filling of pools and ponds. The initiative forms part of Brisbane city council's vision of a clean and green city in 2026 and beyond.

  • To be eligable for the rebate rainwater tanks must be installed by 30 june 2009, and application submitted by 30 September, 2009.
  • $900 - rainwater tank/s volume equal to or more than 3,000 litres up to 4,999 litres and is plumbed into the house for internal use
  • $1,150 - rainwater tank/s volume equal to or more than 5,000 litres and is plumbed into the house for internal use.
  • Pensioners are eligible for an additional rebate of $100.
  • Internal connection only rebate $400 - for residents who plumb their existing rainwater tank/s into the home.
  • Body corporate/community title scheme rebate $1,000 - rainwater tank/s volume equal to or more than 10,000 litres.

Mackay Council

Mackay Regional Council is continuing its highly successful Water Rebate Scheme.

To help residents save water, Waterwise rebates are available on a number of water saving appliances. Rebates are restricted to one rebate type per Rates Assessment and conditions do apply so please read the relevant section found on the Mackay Regional Council Site. A council officer may inspect the installation of an appliance prior to you receiving the rebate.

New South Wales

Up to 40% of a household's water use can be replaced with rainwater.
The rebate is available for the installation of any new rainwater storage system in residential properties in NSW.

Eligibility

  • The tank(s) must have a minimum 2000-litre capacity and be purchased in full and installed between 1 July 2007 and 30 June 2009.
  • Households not connected to the mains supply are eligible for a rebate for the purchase of the tank only.
  • Rainwater tanks installed to comply with BASIX (the Building Sustainability Index) for new homes, major renovations or a pool installation are not eligible for a rebate.

How much is the rebate? The rebate is based on the size of the tank and whether it is plumbed into your toilet or washing machine.

Water Smart Gardens and Homes Rebate Scheme more info (Government Site)
The Water Smart Gardens and Homes Rebate Scheme gives you the chance to save water and money inside your home. The Victorian Government's rebate scheme lets Victorians claim rebates on water saving products like three-star water efficient showerheads, upgrading to eligible dual flush toilets, garden products, rainwater tanks and systems for reusing household waste water.

From 1 January 2007, Victorians on a reticulated water supply have been eligible for rebates of up to $1000 on the purchase and installation of a large rainwater tank connected to your toilet and/or laundry and installed by a licensed plumber.

If you bought and installed an eligible product before 30 June 2007 you have until 30 September 2007 to claim a rebate under the existing terms and conditions.

Rainwater tank and rainwater tank to toilet connection
A household rainwater tank collects rainwater for use inside or outside your home.

  • $150 for a tank 600 litres or greater.
  • An additional $150 for toilet connection.

Large rainwater tank

  • $1000 for a tank 5000+ litres connected to toilet and laundry
  • $900 for a tank 5000+ litres connected to toilet or laundry
  • $500 for tank 2000-4999 litres connected to toilet and/or laundry
